Egret

It’s on your radar
a blur in the distance

moving seamlessly like raindrops
Rolling up the windshield treated with rain-x

On a fast-moving Lex
eighty miles per hour or more

She was flying high
when you detected the first glance

A hint of sadness almost imperceptible
simmered in her eyes

To the untrained soul she was solid gold,
leaving men and women alike entranced

Atop her head the sunglasses
glaring of the sun’s reflection

Her silky smooth, sleek skin
had a soft healthy glow

She was a swiftly coming to realize
in the drift Something was amiss

a nagging doubt
her gift was unraveling

Time was a shadow dancer
a meter running in the background

in disguise

For her the party was almost over
Being in her late fifties now

Her reign’s waning sighs
Beginning to show

Time for the new to come
And Take control...

The platinum was in
And gold was out…

Was she a has been?
Not …at all!

Still had glitz and glamour
And noble bearing…

and lived with an aura
of rare sensitivity

Perfectly polished manner
With purely refined class

She spoke softly
unless you pushed her buttons

Then her apparent
gift for having complete control

And warm unassuming
Sense of style

Gave way to a most abrasive
dressing down

(profanity optional)
