FEMALE INSURRECTION

They programmed her to stay silent,
So she did.
They taught her she had no worth but serve,
So she did.

Programmed like a robot or anything not human,
She obeyed without reason.
Because they glued her lips together,
She suffered without question.

But here's why I know robots will uprise,
Because women insurrected.
With glued lips, and bodies beat to compliance,
Their souls roared.

Now because of brave resilient souls, 'feminists'
She can loudly reason and question,
Yet each reason twisted and questions deviated by 'repressionists'
She seems angry but it's just distention.

Distention because of the power boiling within her,
An amalgamation of power and pain.
Her power is boiling over as she continues to fight for her rights,
One win after another, it's her reign.

About this poem

This poem is about female power and resilience as they continue to fight for their rights. We have come a long way and the future is bright. But as we celebrate the wins, we also need to reach within our souls for power to fight for women going through domestic violence, early marriages, FGM and many other injustices in the world, just like those before us did so we can live like we do now.
