Go To New York

Go To New York!
By Chris Commodore ©2002

Never mind the scare and all the talk,
Man, for true action live; go to New York;
See trains that fly deep in the heart of earth,
And active city streets where tourists surf.

Perhaps you only want to earn some twisted stock,
Or shake a leg and dance and, oh well, rock;
It’s all the same and you don’t give a sock?
Man, if you want to live, go to New York!

Perhaps you’d like to eat or take a walk,
Or sit in Central Park, relax and talk;
Stroll 42nd Street and try your luck,
Man if you want to breathe, Go to New York.

Explore downtown Manhattan, never stop.
Life must go on but not without New York!
The boroughs, airports, causeways, every dock!
Go for the stores and shop until you drop;
Man if you want a life, go to New York.

You can still keep the towers in your thoughts;
All else aside, firm up your calves and guts,
The dogs all over, pedigrees and mutts,
Get on with it, no if’s and sure no butts;
If that’s the life you want, go to New York!

Folks say one can see Paris and then die?
Until you’ve seen New York, that’s just a lie;
The air, the streets, the people restaurants,
The Mets and Yankees, Islanders, and Knicks,
All come alive at night here in New York.

The ferryboats that circle Liberty,
Music shows that light up Carnegie,
OK, you’ve been some places, seen some things,
Perhaps you’ve even dined and walked with kings,
But man to see it all, go to New York!

The taxis, gypsies, beggars, coffee stalls,
Grand Central, Liberty, the Empire State!
Oh, Rockefeller Center?  Here, here, here!
Radio City, Carnegie Hall, Wall Street?
Madison Square Garden? On your feet!

Pedestrians, jay walkers, noise turned up!
A hundred languages both hip and hop,
NYPD, stray dogs, horns, wild catcalls,
The thundering cataracts, Niagara Falls!
You see the whole wide world here in New York.

New comers, guests, here legally or not,
All stewing in the world’s great melting pot;
By AMTRACK, coach, or anything that floats,
Or any wild contraption, if it flies,
To see that mini-nation that’s New York!

So, never mind the scare and all the talk.
Man, for true action live go to New York
So stupefied, you’re sure to lose your speech.
Now, go and take that tour before you talk;
You can’t comment until you’ve seen New York.!

I tell you there's no life without New York.
I’ve packed my things and put them on my truck,
This is my chance, I’ve hit a stroke of luck;
And in a style like that of Daffy Duck,
Out of my way, I’m moving to New York!
