Second Family
This life sure has its list of firsts
Like kisses or a drink
The words that you're about to read
Are what I truly think.
The past two girls I used to date
Their parents never cared
For me so when it comes to you
I was not quite prepared.
Your mom has always been so kind
And welcoming to me
I love her daughter very much
I hope it's clear to see.
Your dad's accustomed to me too
I like it when we talk
About his stories growing up
Who knew he was a jock?
Your sisters, nieces, nephews too
I still think of the day
I met them all for the first time
And prayed it went OK.
The boys just kind of stared at me
I would expect no less
It's weird when someone new shows up
My nerves were such a mess.
Your niece was talking most the time
Which kept me really calm
Just sitting there on one big couch
And waiting for your mom.
Your grandma loves me very much
Your grandpa does as well
I guarantee their love for me
Is cause how hard you fell.
They say you don't just marry one
You get their family too
The thought just makes me smile wide
I get them all, plus you.
