Uniqueness

Charles Fields II 1955 (Fort Bragg, NC)

The bond we share is nameless.
Has many names known by other means.

Not games but strategic interludes.

Surreptitious encounters,
left to others minds

being reviewed for content,
if they can decipher its true intent

just when you seem close
the nuances will gleam

cut short your boast.

Was it something that you missed?
A cue that took a different twist?

Maybe somehow, something
that caught your eye…

a minute fray in the thread
of the common fabric of your mind,

bent time

made thoughts go astray
or was it simply designed that way

from the beginning.

A colorful distraction caught by the wind ...
timed so perfectly, becoming aligned

to other quirks of circumstantial happenstance.

Caught just enough
in the gravity of things

to start a spark to dance
within your eyes,

create a mini tidal wave
which grew to a crescendo,

left you inclined to
plant a shadow of a doubt.

Winding the clockwork in your brain,
a mind-fart which, became a hurricane,

caused your mind to drift
from the ridiculous ...to the absurd

So much so ...
it created a perfect diversion

Which made you
slip and lose your grip,

left you perilously close
to the back roads of the insane

After such a close call with death…
You stopped for a spell

to catch your breath
Barely enough to pass the test...

pulled back loose thoughts,
regained finesse

Focused on design,
more so than content,

although more inclined
to look with open mind.

Astonished when
it seemed to become clear,

near as perfect,
A match evident even to the blind.

What common sense would not retract.
You saw some genius at work there.

Logic too closely knit to be easily unwound,
much less carelessly attacked, as new contexts,

delivered, fresh faces beautiful and clear/clean.

Facets of a dream embraced;
its charm renewed...

Even its faults endearing,
who are even we to know

in the greater scheme
of things unseen,

Is this real
or is it just a dream

Or are you
much like all the rest

Take a cursory glance
at best.

Going about
your business,

No longer amused
Or in the least

entertained

Nothing ventured

lesser
Gained
