Butt naked

(Will this be you and me?)
When we started
our streets were paved with gold

Everything good rained upon us
With potential of the highest degree

Each day filled with endless possibility
We were positive there were no limits

To a place in this world
where we might come to be

There was not anything
worthy of the effort

To produce the necessary
focus and drive

with an intensity
to fashion a design

no short of amazing
in fulfilling its purpose

with economy Versatility
With minimal waste

While maximizing efficiency

Little we could envision
our spirit Would leave

short of excellent
in every degree

Not to find
worthy to complete

Or leave lost or broken
for what purposes

of what endless possibilities
We could call to mind,

imagine or perceive
there was no limit

to the potential
of our strategy

Or weakness
in what we could do together

So strong
was our faith and belief

Never wasn't ever
even possible

nor fear or failure
entered in our blog
of loving life

for us, here was only
calm compassionate verse

Even at our worst

we were together
in spirit and deed

We were never further
than the need for loving comfort

Even closer than someone
dedicated to the purpose

doing something that they love

In our vocabulary There was
no such word as weak

Misunderstanding
was the greatest thief

to rob us of
the best of our intentions

to be loving life together
forever and a day

For the balance of eternity

Rather than losing it all
falling from heaven's smiles

and joyful laughter
At our worst mistakes

Instead of mired
in sorrow

Sad and lonely
Even when we're together

leaving us only
smoldering in the ashes
overcome with disbelief

Gazing into the mirror
at our greatest foe

Doing our best attempt
at damage control

While feeling helpless
swimming against a rip tide

drowning in our sorrows
Lost in the chaos

with senseless echoes
of anguished screams

For a more merciful solution
Instead of feeling trapped

A hapless prisoner
of recurrent dreams

Of self-defeat
