City of Brotherly Love

Oh Philadelphia, cradle of our nation's birth,
Where history's quill first touched the earth.
A city steeped in stories, in cobblestones and steel,
A tapestry of triumphs, and wounds that time can heal.

From Independence Hall's hallowed halls, democracy took flight,
A beacon for a fledgling land, a guiding, steady light.
Where liberty was etched in ink, on parchment brave and true,
Philadelphia, the heart of dreams, we owe our thanks to you.

Institutions of wisdom, where knowledge finds its home,
A Mecca for the curious, where eager minds may roam.
From Penn to Temple, Drexel's halls, LaSalle, a chorus of pursuit,
In every book and lecture, in every scholar's route.

Medical marvels blossom here, where science takes its stand,
Healing hands and brilliant minds, extend a helping hand.
Halls of Jefferson, a leader in all it attempts.
The heartbeat of advancement, in labs and clinics strong,
Philadelphia, you mend the world, with knowledge vast and long.

Beneath the shadows of skyscrapers, two rivers find their way,
Delaware and Schuylkill's embrace, their waters run today.
A testament to nature's course, in midst of urban sprawl,
A reminder of life's constant flow, a rhythm felt by all.

Yet in the heart of liveliness, a shadow casts its pall,
A city marred by violence, a haunting, ceaseless call.
Murders echo through the streets, a cry for peace and grace,
Philadelphia, in your heart, we seek a safer space.

Blue-as-Blue can be, in politic and sport,
Green prevails at the Linc on Sundays, as Eagles thwart.
Phills trudge on with Harper’s hit by hit,
As the Sixers re-build the Process witho’t Joel’s might.

A musical mecca, where beats and rhymes hold sway,
Hip-hop's rhythm pulses strong, in night and light of day.
Meek Mill's voice to Adam’s Low-Cut-Connie, a culture that ignites,
Philadelphia, you birthed a sound, that takes us to new heights.

Between the giants, NYC and DC, you stand with pride,
A chip upon your shoulder, in blue-collar strength you stride.
You forge your path with grit and heart, a city unafraid,
Philadelphia, it’s your thing, in your soul, a legacy is laid.

From Rocky's steps to cheesesteak dreams, your fame is known wide,
The Liberty Bell's eternal chime, in history does abide.
Philadelphia, you wear your scars, your victories, and strife,
A city of brotherly love, the heartbeat of a nation's life.

Words and writing have always interested me, but the transition now is from scientific writing (which is based on logic and the rational) to a more emotive, lyrical form. At present this remains an experiment to see if I can strike the right tone, elicit a desired effect, etc. Full disclosure: I have been utilizing chatGPT as an "assistant"; I provide the prompts, edit extensively, yet the structure is provided by my assistant. I take full responsibility for the end result. Not that dissimilar to work on a scientific project in the lab, etc. more…
