The First

Debra Brogan 1986 (fairbury, IL)

THE FIRST
I would like to dedicate this poem to a good friend, Tylar.
You’re the first to stand out in a crowd,
The first to make my heart stop.
You’re the first whos’ smile rendered me breathless,
The first to bring me joy.
You’re the first to make my nerves tremble and my body shake.
The first to leave me speechless.
You’re the first whos’ voice made my heart race,
The first to show me respect.
You’re the first person I couldn’t approach,
The first whos’ presence excites me.
But most of all, I want to be The First for You!

About this poem

I saw someone who appeared to glow. I wasn't supposed to be working there much longer but I knew I had to know him. even though I avoided him for almost two weeks thinking there's no way he's single, he started holding the door for me me and bringing me things I needed and finally introduced himself. we have been friends now for four months.

I am honored to be a three year editors' choice award winner from 2005, 2006, and 2007 for "The One". I have not written anything since. I have recently been inspired by a really good friend. more…
