Take a breath

When the haunting images of you encompass my every cell, and they grip my devastated heart like a boa constrictor,
I take a breath in,  I take a breath out

When I am all alone and aching for even just your presence, when I'm tormented by the years spent trying and the years there will never be,
I take a breath in,  I take a breath out

When I  mistakenly write your name as my own, when I open a bottle of wine we once shared,
I take a breath in,  I take a breath out

When  the secrets you kept for so many moons creep in,  and  i agonize again, how could i have not known?
I take a breath in, I take a breath out

When problems arise like the northern wind,  Vehicles break,  homes need repairs,
I take a breath in, I take a breath out

When I find myself on my knees sobbing and just wanting you near,  thinking it would change nothing,  but would momentarily solve everything,
I take a breath in, I take a breath out

Today I gaze into the mirror at the image of the woman I am presently, I realize she is someone I need to get to know all over again,  and...
I take a breath in, I take a breath out
