Note to dad
When I became a dad...
I realized
how wrong I was,
To you
As a son.
I yelled and screamed...
For days on end.
And said the things
No dad should hear
From a loved one.
Though I can never take,
Those moments
Back.
Nor can I lessen
In any way,
The pain I caused.
I want to thank you dad
For being
My dear friend.
Though we both know,
It was clearly
Undeserved.
About this poem
The poem was written on the back of an argument with my son reflecting back to how much I misunderstood and how little I valued what my dad had done for me.
