Love Absolute

Chad Allyn Josselyn 1982 (Fort Lauderdale)

My heart aches with the love I hide,
For fear of tarnishing your perfect stride.
You deserve the best, this I know,
But I couldn't risk my flaws and let them show.

I've lost my chance to ever be,
The one to hold you close and see,
The love within your shining eyes,
That I now see with bittersweet sighs.

But my love for you will never fade,
And though it hurts, I'll proudly parade,
The sacrifice I made for your happiness,
For your smile brings me eternal gladness.

So I'll cherish the memories we could've made,
And watch from afar as your love is displayed,
Holding onto the hope that you'll be happy,
Even if it's with someone who isn't me.

About this poem

I was inspired to write this a few months back when someone I had held dear had made it public that they are currently in a serious relationship, and I had thought I had time to make myself worthy of their affection or someone they'd find worthy of being in a relationship with them.
