Loss of Hearing

Loss of Hearing
By Art Hyde

She said, “You need a hearing aid.”
I said, “I’ll take the lemonade, thank you very much.”

She asked me if my kids were grown,
I think I heard you like this song.

I said, you are quite lovely,
But her reply I never heard.

I’ve heard of those soft-spoken,
but her volume was quite absurd.

She said, “Would you like a burger?
I said, “I’m married, and shocked for that inferred!”

I’m trying to like this party,
But, narrowly heard too much,
someone said I farted,
but can’t agree to such.

I think my ears are broken,
most will sure agree,

Going to leave this party,
no one’s talking to me.

About this poem

When our hearing is diminished as we grow old we often refused to acknowledge the loss.
