Freight Train

Tracey Lee 1973 (London)

Dark in the night
Freight train running
First signs of light
She'll be coming
Rhythmically moving
Pulsating the track
Keeping in tempo
No holding back
Free as a bird
Wild as a horse
Steam train rolling
Keeping on course
Nothing can stop her
She glides through the night
A gallant lady under a moon so bright
Giving all she's got till her final destination
Eight miles ahead til the next railway station
This important job
he must complete
Tomorrow , again, she will repeat
Pushing along
Swiftly she goes
Blows her whistle
Coming to a close
Her wheels on steel
Pulsating the rails
Slowing , so slowly
This lady prevails
Speed is descending
As she comes to her end
Then another station
She needs to attend.
