This Needs To Be Said

This Needs To Be Said

A broken heart needs time to mend
So why does taking care of myself
Feel like a crime or an open door
For thieves to take advantage of?
Feelings, desires and dreams…
These are not toys to play with
Promises of forever
Tattooed on my flesh
Burn as a pyre
Reminders of neglect
Breadcrumbs of attention
Litter my life with ashes.

The afterlife of love lost is solitude
Affections and companionship
Must give way to reflection
Compassion to oneself
Healing and forgiveness
For mistakes made
Compromises gone wrong
Betrayals in the back
And trust taken from me
The trail I blaze now
Vibes on a new frequency
Only for those who care to listen.
