The Co-interdependence of Life Forms
Karl Constantine FOLKES 1935 (Portland)
In all of Life’s forms
the unconscious state is primary.
At state of one’s ‘birth’
it ‘materializes,’
transformed into ‘consciousness.’
Life is a cycle,
operating in two states:
The ‘Potential’ state,
as potential energy,
existing in inert state.
In this inert state
of mass potentialities,
energy is ‘Dark.’
It is ‘Collective Dark Energy.’
It is the ‘Collective Unconscious.’
In its inert form
this is a ‘Primary State.’
It precedes consciousness.
As an autonomous state,
it is ‘The Source’ of consciousness.
As ‘Active’ energy,
consciousness is inert form
transformed now as ‘Matter,’
transformed as ‘Kinetic’ energy,
emerging from its latent potential state.
The cycle of Life,
examined psychologically,
views two distinct states:
The ‘Conscious’ and the ‘Unconscious.’
The perspective of psychoanalysis.
In the physical sciences
of theoretical physics,
these are energy states:
The one potential,
and the other kinetic.
These two states of energy
are in constant dynamic interaction.
In the world of human behavior,
they manifest as waking states of consciousness,
interacting with our unconscious dream state.
Like the monarch butterfly,
At one time as a caterpillar,
living life in a chrysalis stage;
crawling on the ground in lowliness;
then later soaring in majesty…
Or fly larvae embracing a tree leaf,
producing eggs to be hatched;
first laying in inert form,
bequeathed with latent energy;
then later airborne as buzzing flies…
So are all life forms ever in interaction;
as energy in movement or stationary.
revealing the constancy of change
that governs all existence;
the universe and all the galaxies.
All things of nature,
‘living’ or ‘non-living,’
are in constant interaction with one another.
All in constant states of co-interdependence.
All in constant states of transformation.
Although ever in transformation,
these two states preserve their potentials;
neither losing nor gaining.
Bounded by the laws of nature,
they remain in constant interdependence.
Collectively these two states
are co-interdependent:
The ‘Inert’ and the ‘Active.’
All of life is a transformation.
All of life’s forms are co-interdependent.
About this poem
This fourteen-stanza tanka poem emerged from my mind-streaming reflection on the seeming innate connections between ‘Life’ and ‘Death,’ ‘Consciousness’ and the ‘Unconscious’ and in theoretical physics between. ‘Potential’ energy and ‘Kinetic’ energy. This poem invites commentary.
