She Need not Perfect
At the green table I recline
'Single and searching' it's said
Searching for the perfect rhyme,
Here is the working drawings of my head:
Not necessarily plumpy nor skinny but slender
Not necessarily all-knowing and bereft of reason neither
Not in want of heels but tall and younger
Not in want of heart but perfect in love or never,
O smooth skin! Flawless
Wild beauty lawless.
Aye, bring it on,
This gender matches my gender ten to one
Crowding the display table like potatoes of different shapes and different skin colors
Sampled for sale in Sandgrouse-Market Lagos;
But all these features I desperately desire resides in more than sixteen
I desire them merged in one vixen.
O divine creativity!
What shall it cost a man a perfect match customized?
O dexterous divinity!
Ready this man a fortune compromised.
Mix the clay with a big drop of milk and honey
More milk and honey and don't be stingy
Very well mix the mash for a smooth skin, silky.
A big bottle of intelligence, pour it
Two large wine skins of beauty, pour it.
Mold with such exactitude
Make no mistake and I'll show gratitude;
Bold figure, tall and slender
Those dimples, poke them deeper,
A big heart to love
Eyes as those of dove,
Younger, O age!
Lovelier, O face!
When have I cared about skin colors?
O perfect beauty! Defy all laws;
Ouch, just give me the clay and move thyself
I'll mold her myself.
Near the gray table I stood, hands on knees
Waiting for the perfect maiden I molded to breathe
But breathe she would not;
At the gray table I sat, chin on knees
Waiting for the perfect maiden I sculpted to breathe
But breathe she would not;
Now I Know, she need not perfect.
