Fishing

Walt Sisikin 1953 (Santiago)

July 23

I took the week off work and went fishing the whole time, the whole week
The first day off work I felt like I was doing something wrong, I felt meek
I had some friends go with me, on my boat
We traveled for about an hour and a half to get to our fishing spot
As we anchored, there was such anticipation and disbelief that we finally were going to catch the big halibut, as big as a goat
We were ready to catch as many as we could fit in the cooler, it is a big cooler, we were ready to catch a lot
Throughout the day, we caught a few salmon, sculpin (Double Uglies) and a big skate
The weather was pleasant, the company was fine and no one wanted to leave the fishing site
Needless to say, we left to go home pretty late
Everyone had been waiting for the big one to bite
Unfortunately, it didn’t happen this time
However, there is hope, the next trip we will have to start out earlier, so that the halibut are hungry and they take the bait, including the slime
Next time for sure, yep, the big one is waiting, I know it’s going to be mine.
