Snow

Walt Sisikin 1953 (Santiago)

Snow

It snows and it snows
When it will stop, no one knows
Today, it was one foot
Tomorrow, maybe two
Get out the shovel, clean a path to the front door
Because we don’t know how much snow we’ll get, how much more
Where shall we put the snow, the mountains of it are piled high
And it keeps snowing and piling up, no matter how hard I try
The futility of it all, I wish the snow would melt
I wish the sun would warm this Northern land
I remember last year, how good the sun’s warmth felt
Now, all we have is darkness and cold and my incessant rant
Tomorrow, the weather will be the same
But, some day, some day, our present complaints will be put to shame
The sun will shine, a warm wind will gently blow
Everyone will be happy and we will be rid of the snow

About this poem

It's been snowing hard for several days, here in the Northern lands.
