Sara

Sara

Long live my beautiful friend Sara
The Empress on top of the world
Exotic and effervescent beauty
Egyptian and English lady
Heart of gold, passion and love
Whose words spoke wit, wisdom
And truth to those who listened
From near and far away
And all the way across The Pond.

You live like there is no tomorrow
Passionately with such verve
Joie de vivre to spare
Celebration accompanied by
Spiritual energy and insight
Rarely found in this world
You are a pearl from deep water
Such oceanic allure rising
From a sea of mediocre souls.

I admire you from afar with eyes
You held with precious time
I see you fighting for life
A cancer so common to women
Wrecking havoc viciously
You fight with a soldier’s courage
In the face of the NHS
Who treated you with contempt
Because of your skin shade.

So the day has long since passed
The verbs turn to past tense
And I stop seeing your face
Live stream and breathing
I read you had died late
My heart cried invisible tears
Our talks are now memories
I frame you in words unspoken
Wishing you to life out loud.

About this poem

Sara was my long distance friend in the UK. She lived a beautiful life out loud in the face of cancer that took her life this year. I will miss her very dearly.
