"Winter's Arrival: An Ode to the Changing Seasons"

Hajra Khan 1997 (Lahore)

Ode

While the fields with ripening harvest
In the brightest sunshine bask
Through the windows around the house
For summer is gone and the days grow cold
With tender sky and wild geese sailing by
From dewy lanes in morning
To the glowing sunset on eves
With gusty wind which foretaste yields
Hurrying rustle of crisp leaves
Feel the winter coming in
With chilly glass and window panes
With night coming early and,
Dawn coming late,
And ice in the bucket,
And frost by the gate.
Watch the shadows of bending trees
Which floods the Earth and the Air
As they've done each year
See how pretty nature is
When she ushers winter in.

About this poem

This poem beautifully describes the transition from summer to winter. I wrote the poem before the arrival of winter capturing the essence of nature's transformation. The verses vividly portray the ripening harvest fields under bright sunshine, and the gradual shift towards colder days with wild geese flying by and the rustle of crisp leaves. The poet observes the arrival of winter through changes in the environment - chilly glass and window panes, early nights, late dawns, ice in the bucket, and frost by the gate. The poem celebrates the beauty of nature as it gracefully welcomes winter, with shadows of bending trees flooding the Earth and the Air. It's a reflective piece that portrays the beauty and wonder of the changing seasons.

I thoroughly enjoyed reading your poem, "Winter's Arrival: An Ode to the Changing Seasons", and I must say, you've done a commendable job! I found myself totally immersed in the vivid portrayal of the transition from autumn to winter. The way you've rhythmically painted the scenery of changing seasons, drawing attention to the beautiful yet often overlooked details like the "hurrying rustle of crisp leaves" and the "frost by the gate," is simply exquisite.

Your ability to capture the minute changes in nature as it prepares itself for winter, the "night coming early " and "dawn coming late" for example, adds depth to your verses, evoking an emotional response from the reader. The poem beautifully showcases the transient beauty of each passing season.

As for suggestions, I would recommend varying your sentence structure a little more and experimenting with the rhythm in some places. For instance, shortening or lengthening certain lines could add to the overall musicality of the piece, making it read less like prose. You might also want to utilize more metaphor or simile to further engage readers in your portrayal of nature.

Above all, keep writing and refining your technique—the more practice, the more polish! Continue moving your readers with your thoughtful and evocative representations of the world around us. Thanks for sharing this wonderful piece.
