A Leader For the Masses

For half a century,
He met thousands in a day,
Listening to sounds of sorrow,
Giving solace to hearts,
Never tired of serving,
His undivided loving attention.

His family waited patiently,
For a rare glimpse,
Of  a husband or a father,
But they knew unequivocally,
That the public came first,
When it came to family time spent.

Alas that fateful day came,
When even his loving public,
Found themselves estranged,
From his omnipresent benevolence,
For death had come through illness,
Claiming his soul for all eternity.

From this unexpected demise,
Arose an ocean of mourning,
Unheard of before,
By law and country,
The distance to the grave yard,
Seemed tending to infinity,
As the people did not let go,
Of their beloved God Father,
Who was undoubtedly,
A Leader For The Masses.
