The Poet

This our craft
This is our hope
Silly as it may appear…

http://histocall.blogspot.com/2023/07/the-poet.html

Our line of work

Is to produce ideas

Formulate them as words

Printed on paper

Distributed to friends

And perhaps strangers

By happenstance.

Such joy and challenge.

The words may

Correct

Illustrate

Love or chastise

Story-tell

Hero-worship

Travel Nature

Places of plenty

Or of regrettable lack.

Lack of food, lodging

Lack of generosity of Heart.

We may not realize it

But we have been commissioned

From some High Places

To observe and report.

To uplift and expose.

To suggest silly hope.

To raise the bar.

To draw upon conscience.

Equity.

Those High Places audit and consider.

Robert Browning said

In one of his poems

That we are even to be feared

Given proper respect

Heeded.

Despite our eccentricities

Or peccadillos or queer life styles

And strange usage of Time.

The Irish, Greeks, Ukraines

Seized upon this

And the American Indigenous.

We are engaged in that

Constant battle between

Art expression

Humanities.

And numbers, science, profit

And cold, heartless logic.

May the struggle at least

Come to a draw.

Please Lord.

I know You just heard.

I know You can step in.

You will.
