The Value of Cheese Over Glue

It’s not the fault of the mouse
for wanting cheese.
The mouse doesn’t want to be hungry.
The mouse doesn’t decide to have
two feet or four.
The mouse doesn’t beg or plead or murder
It cries and hides and fights to survive.
Are we not all mice?
Do we not all long for the crumbs of mercy
to pile at our feet so we can feed?
We drag hard-earned bread crusts home
and we put our family first and we love.
The mouse doesn’t ask for much,
so maybe instead of glue, offer cheese.
Cause you never know
when that mouse could be you.

About this poem

This poem takes at look at the point of view of the mice we try to exterminate in our homes who are fighting the same fight we are to survive.
