The Raiders Are Here

The Raiders Are Here
Mary Louise Di Stasio 18/4/2021

The raiders have advanced
On my haven and resting place
To conquer and vanquish
With overpowering might
Exploding and drilling
Devastating the landscape
My native home, where
I lived and belonged

The raiders have progressed
They found my secret place
Devastating and devouring the terrain
Ransacking the topography
Blasting primitive rocks
Plonking modern foundations under it
Merely for the kudos of living on a hill
Sighting splendid views

The raiders have stolen
My God created landscape
A sanctuary of mystery and enchantment
Replacing city dwellers
On another concrete hill
Overtaking and succeeding
A landscape once full
Of mystery and intrigue

The raiders have developed
My once guarded secret place
Hauling heavy machinery
Jaws of metal devouring
Undulating hills and meadows
Diverting creeks and streams
Dissecting the geography
Stealing my subsistence

Imagine that the things
So special to you,
We’re not gone,
Not dead, but in a moment
Of man-made madness
Had never been?
My vision of the world
My God given environment
