End In Life

June 23 
A half-bloomed rose
on a bent stem,
water between
the cobblestones.

Grey clouds moved on
and a big sky
sends down glimmer,
transitory.

My face wrinkled,
steady, watching.
Gently, the rose
taps the stones.
