Existential Sonnet

Existential Sonnet

As I cross the gap between
Birth and death to come
I find the most important things
Are what I'm running from
Love and life are like a war
An existential fight
That everyone is fighting for
Running to the light
Why should I feel love at all
If love is not my own
What does reason mean at all
If meaning is alone
Of all my thoughts, I comprehend
Even meaning has an end

About this poem

I wrote this while pondering the existential stuff at work. I have a lot of time to think at work, since I stand there holding a Stop/Slow paddle for traffic safety in construction zones. It's about the things I take for granted, and whether significance is even personal as an individual.
