4 Days Later

The Autumn breeze was blowing
On that cool November night
She came to see her babies
And tuck them in real tight

She told them that she loved them
And she’d see them all real soon
Who knew that 4 days later
Chaos would be strewn

The phone rang with a question
And the answer was already clear
Why would he even call
He knew she wasn’t here

A mother’s thoughts were racing
Her children missed their mom
How could she break the news
Without it exploding like a bomb?

It doesn’t matter where she’s been
What she’s done or who she knew
What matters is she’s a person
With a right to live, just like you

If you know where she could be
The only thing left to do is call
No one needs to know your name
And you don’t have to be involved

Please bring her family peace
And let her children sleep at night
Let a mother start to heal
And be forgiven for doing what’s right

Her purpose on this earth
Isn’t in vain, it’s for something greater
And I pray you never have to answer a call
That comes in 4 days later

Bring Tab Home…

About this poem

This poem was written about a young mother who is missing from my hometown. There are speculations about her boyfriend possibly killing her but no formal charges have been filed. Everyone is talking, but the words aren’t loud enough. It’s as if she simply vanished…
