My Shadow Past

I ran and ran to leave behind
My shadow of regret to find
A place of comfort and of peace,
Where all embarrassment would cease.

No matter how fast I could run
Or help I got from everyone,
My shadow past kept pace with me
And did so very easily.

I tried to hide within the shade
Avoiding all mistakes I made,
At least the ones that hurt inside
And chipped away at selfish pride.

I ran and ran until I fell.
My self-esteem not feeling well
So, I began to pray and pray
And THEN God sent His peace my way!
