As Chaos Falls

Keep on scrapping,
Keep on thrusting,
For the nation's burning urge.
Hoist that flag up high,
Bare your might,
Never eject yourself.
Sacrificed like sheep,
Whispers of mirth
From clandestine dens.
Yet the mighty
Remain untouched
As chaos falls.
Treated like kings,
Never blemished,
Never famished
In this world.
As we bleed out,
With war banners opened.
Our fate long lost,
Only scorch
And ash
As the wind demands.
Our souls purged,
A realm forever changed
By violent means.
Only blistered earth,
Caked in soot
And grime.
No fairness to be found,
Only loss and misdeed.
Cast in silence
That never ends,
A cost we must face.
With our merciless deeds
That we showcase.
Millions lost
In the dust,
Bereaved mothers
Mourn and grope.
Clinging
To the remnants
Of their babies,
The agony of loss
Can't slip away.
The innocent pay the price
For the mighty's transgressions.
As death approaches,
Collecting bones,
Our regrets come
To assembly.

I'm just a regular, blue collar, working stiff who took an interest in writing poetry many years ago but until recently I haven't had a desire to share any with anyone or pursue publication. I'm an unpublished fork lift operator by night, and a day drinker by choice. I can be followed on Twitter @JoeStricklandSC more…
