Dad

Headed to the ICU, don't know what to expect.
The doctor says you won't pull through, your mind can't recollect.

I'm gripping your hand tightly, crying tears I can't retain, cause' this time those prescription pills took more than just your pain.

You lay there unresponsive, I just want to hear your voice. They're taking you off life support, we're left without a choice.

Our family's here to comfort you, this room is filled with sorrow. We know this day will be your last, you won't be here tomorrow.

You're clinging on with all your strength, my heart is sorely aching. It hurts to watch you struggle now, with every breath you're taking.

I said my last goodbyes, but nearly choked on every word. And now, here ten years later, I still wonder if you heard.

Though I'm trapped in desolation living life without your presence, you'll always be here in my heart, averting evanescence.

I'll cherish every memory from the moments that we shared. And though your death was unexpected, I never would have been prepared.

I'm accepting this reality, my pain can find release. But you'll always be remembered, Dad.
I love you.
Rest in peace.

With Father's Day coming soon, and with this poet not being able to share another special day with his or her father, this struck a chord with me. I pray for healing and the peace of knowing that one day they will be together again and able to spend time eternally and in a loving place with one another. God bless this poet.

It resonated a deep loss and the acceptance of it. I could feel the pain they experienced and it remi ded me of my own.

It was very emotional and showed true emotion all throughout the poem . I’m guessing this was a true story which makes it even more touching .
