Angst

Nothing left to learn
Nothing to be said
Time, it drags on and on
It's better to be dead

Nothing worth remembering
Nothing left to burn
Don't rock back in my kitchen chair
Lest you overturn

Sitting in the last restroom stall
Thoughts have gone to nil
Watching the world through the cracks
I take my little pill

Soon all is numb
Soon I'm able to cope
No longer wanting to cut my wrists
Leaning on this dope

What a pleasure to feel this way
Never needing your pity
I folded those, go put them away
Whose life is now more shitty

Catch the dragon, ride it hard
Sleep away the blues
I can't wake him, he's too far gone
This is the life I choose

Nothing left but alibi
Have no reason to rhyme
Dig my grave with a silver spoon
I ain't worth a dime

I won't tolerate this anymore
Oh God, where did we fail
Get your ass out of this house
You all can go to hell

Break open that bottle of Jack, Pops
This damn pain I got in the war
Another Darvon for you, Mom,
she's passed out on the floor

But I'm the one on the crutch
The monkey's on my back
If they're selling primates at the store
You better get a damn six-pack

I'd rather be out turning tricks
Can't bear the weight of your stare
Tuna Helper and reruns of MASH
are the clothes you have to wear

Fifteen years, a marionette
Your puppet on a string
Eating all the guilt you send
Winding up my spring

So now I'm long gone
So now what have you got
A spare room full of nothing
but scars where we fought

Peace out you crazy kids
My shit is in the wind
Can't say I'll see you again in this life
So long, from your favorite sin.

About this poem

I struggled as a youth, in a home where everything seemed okay on the outside but inside was turmoil. Sometimes these dark feelings rush through me, and writing seems to be my escape. Once the words are on paper, I can deal with them on my terms.
