Bird And Subtle Light

Joe Strickland 1986 (Hobbysville, SC)

I woke up today to a world abuzz
The city streets were alive with a rush
Cars honking in their daily tussle
Pedestrians shouting, a noisy bustle

I walked to work with a heavy mind
Thinking of deadlines and stress combined
But then I saw a bird in flight
And felt my worries take a subtle light

The sky was vast and blue as can be
A painting, a masterpiece, a sight to see
I stood and watched as the bird flew away
Thinking of how much beauty exists today

Despite the noise, the rush, the stress
There's beauty in the world, I confess
As long as we stop and take a look
There's peace to find, a calming hook

We should never forget to breathe
To take a moment, to simply be
In this world that's always moving fast
There's beauty all around, it's sure to last.

I'm just a regular, blue collar, working stiff who took an interest in writing poetry many years ago but until recently I haven't had a desire to share any with anyone or pursue publication. I'm an unpublished fork lift operator by night, and a day drinker by choice. I can be followed on Twitter @JoeStricklandSC more…
