Come back

Head banging off the turf, I’m stunned like Prescott.
Mind in agony, it hurts badly, can’t take another sac.
Lost my soul entirely, got swallowed up in a single gulp.
Devoured by an evil monster the size of a humpback.
It took my will and chopped it in half with an ax.
This is the work of a devil, a lethal lumberjack.

Rotting in its wicked lair,
Everything’s pitch-black.
How long has it been?
May I please backtrack?
Pinned against the floor,
It’s standing on my back.
The fortitude to act,
I cowardly lack.
In fact, my faith is spent.
Down to the last greenback.
I need a break, I need to rest.
I'm empty, nothing left to hack.
No more energy to continue.
Bless my grave with cognac.

What has gotten into you? Get up!
Do not accept this mental hijack.
Can't give up, there is no folding.
This is the game of life, not blackjack.
Don't be so pathetic, forget the shame.
Chin up! Go and retrieve your pride back.
Come on tiger, let your stripes shine.
Rise up from the dead, claw back!
Resist, revolt. Do something, anything.
Retaliate, counterstrike, fight back!
Reach to the depths, discover your heart.

Confidence is within you, come back!

End this needless suffering.
I know you want payback.
This enemy, it is nothing.
A mere knickknack.
But you. You’re a vicious killer.
Ferocious, like a full grown Kodiak.
Need an army to stop you like King Kong.
Call in more troops, this man is a silverback.
A fighter in the ring, but the gloves are off.
Fists hungry for revenge, they yearn for a smack.
Left hook to the temple, uppercut to the jaw,
No mercy, let it all out, whack after whack.
You have what it takes, the makeup is there.

Trust my word, please, and just come back!

I hear you, and I agree. Time to end this psychological ransack.
Sorry to disappoint you, but that’s over. Time to launch my attack.
Behind the wheel, I’m bulldozing it over with my 72 Cadillac,
Hop out the car and impale an iron spike through its hunchback.
Drag the corpse and stuff it tight in my backpack
Then have it fed to the wolves, the whole pack,
Recover the chewed bones and bury them outback.

Now, I'm on the offense. Won’t stop, won't cut it any slack.
I’ll work tirelessly, all through the night, like a driven insomniac.
I’ll work until this dark spell smokes like a wooden shack.
Until the despair departs from my heart’s tarmac.
Until this foreign mask it put over me starts to crack.
Until I'm cleansed of this sorrowful plaque.

Lately, I’ve been doing well. Yes I have.
Feeling like myself again. It's a throwback.
Confident that I will finish this grueling marathon.
Soon destined to take my victory lap around the track.
Long as I fend off the looming insanity,
I will defeat this melancholic maniac.

About this poem

I wrote this poem to express my ongoing battle with depression. Lately though, I have been having success to keep it at bay.
