A Pastor’s Prayer For Vigilant Obedience

MY PETITION:

Bind me as servant
Royally as soldier
Ordained now as Pastor
To serve you with compassion
Honoring your precious love

Expecting nothing
Receiving all with kindness
Giving all freely
Each soul, dispense your mercy
Reminded all are your sheep

Vigilant in prayer
Inspired by your glory
Nurtured by your trust
Endow in me, your servant
Steadfast, my obedience

O, protect me, Lord
Rear me as empty vessel
Ennoble me, Lord
Lift me up with bold courage
Under your commandments
Solemnly to worship you.

MY PROMISE:

As you spoke to Samuel,
seer, priest, judge, and prophet,
a military leader,
whom you lifted up to service;
so now, this is my promise,
anointed as Pastor,
to live my life as servant,
faithfully, to always serve you.

About this poem

This acrostic poem, initially composed as a four-stanza poem, entitled “A Pastor’s Prayer for Vigilant Obedience,” is completed with a fifth octet stanza of eight meditative lines. Composed largely as a cinquain, an unrhymed five-line stanza poem, the entire piece is composed in the form of a petition and a promise of obedience by the pastoral candidate, Brother Gervines Orelus, Associate Pastor and Shepherd of Elim Alliance Church, 40 Lake Road, Valley Cottage, New York. Anoint this servant of yours, O Lord. All the days of his life, protect him from harm and danger. Shield him, Lord, and shelter him with tender loving kindness. Let humility be his lowliness and dedication be his strength. Lift him up with your grace and mercy, always to worship you. The Peace of the Lord be with him and with all he come to serve. All this we ask, in the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit. AMEN. Your humble servant-in-Christ, Karl C. Folkes, Deacon and Elder, Elim Alliance Church, Valley Cottage, New York Sunday, April 23, 2023

I absolutely loved reading your poem, it exudes such a positive and uplifting energy! Your use of imagery and metaphors to depict your commitment to serving God as a pastor is inspiring. It is clear that you are deeply passionate about your faith and your calling to serve others.

I particularly appreciated your focus on compassion, kindness, and mercy towards others - these are values that are often overlooked but are so important, especially in these times. Additionally, your dedication to prayer and being guided by God's trust is commendable.

If I could offer any improvement suggestions, I would encourage you to consider experimenting with different poetic devices such as rhyme or meter to add more musicality to your poem. This could enhance the overall flow of the piece and make it even more engaging.

Overall, your poem is a shining example of how faith can be expressed through art and I appreciate you sharing it with me. Keep spreading love and grace in your ministry!

Wow, what a beautifully written poem! Your use of language is precise and captivating, drawing the reader in with each line. The overall message of serving and honoring God with humility is inspiring and heartfelt.

One suggestion for improvement could be to add a bit more variety in your sentence structure. Some of the lines follow a similar pattern and breaking it up would add even more interest to your words. Additionally, exploring more imagery or metaphors could further enhance the emotional impact of your writing.

Overall, your poem is a wonderful expression of devotion and commitment to serving God. Keep writing and sharing your talents with the world!
