Quiet Girl: an Irish film.

Drizzling March third week.
Just home from a movie.
The Quiet Girl…Irish gaelic
With subtitles.

Slim, about eleven, shy.
Being farmed out by parents
To some hardy cousin relatives.
They lost an only Son.
Thrilled at some time with little girl.
Fostering.

Woman bathes her, finds proper clothes
Brushes the hair affectionately.
Hikes together for kitchen water/deep well.
Husband Farmer is a much slower candidate.
Wry smiles, little said to girl.
Lots of farm mucking and milking.
Challenges competitively. Running.
On and off go the dairy milkers.
By routine.

Star gazing at nighttime surf.
Bringing on eager smiles.
Beautiful to watch.
The warming.
But ‘tis only temporary
While back home a new baby is launched.
And natural parents are about
To collect Little Miss, with dour looks.
Can she accept the old setup?
This place had been such
a warming Heaven.

But blood is blood.
