Poetry their travel in
Horse drawn buggies, clopping.
Poetry their roadside stands
Of flowers, syrup too.
Poetry their well groomed kids
Out walking on a Sunday.
Poetry their breaking sod
With horse teams pulling through.
Masterpiece their Meeting House
White clapboard, urging worship.
Masterpiece the ball games
Where the men just laugh and play
Masterpiece the Gardens, edged
With purpling gladiolas.
Masterpiece the women
Showing love in every way.
About this poem
Our Waterloo Region includes many pleasant Mennonite farms and families. When spring comes the four-horse plows are hard at it. Breaking ground. Much of their Life was recorded in beautiful paintings by local artist Peter Etril Snyder.
