When The Sky Burns

In times of uncertainty
There is only comfort in you.
Your calming presence
Blue-eyed soul
Belly full of rasp and innocence
You possess your own force
Gravity from within
I can feel it across an ocean
Since our story began

As the sun rises
It burns the sky
What was once tranquil in darkness
Is now on fire
Just like our house
The one from my dream
I tried to save us
But would only lose my grasp
It feels so familiar and somehow
Uncomfortably strange

Salty rivers stream down
A scarred landscape
The terrain once full of youth
Supple and vibrant
Now torn and healed
Decades of pain
Decades of love
Decades of growth

It is difficult to remember
As it is easy to forget
Each connection made
In this lifetime or the next
Beautifully tragic
Raw and stripped to the core
It is fleeting
Between longing souls
To search a lifetime
Guarantees nothing
Not for the stars
Not even for us
