Regret
George Nurse 1966 (Georgetown)
I’d have forbidden her to lie down
I must have fallen asleep
Maybe the evils of my tongue’s the reason she didn’t speak
As I looked out upon me
She too was fast asleep
Her face buried in the nape of my neck
I wanted to wake her and ask her to forgive me
For all of my ills I know now that she loves me
But my vessel’s no longer mine- access denied
So I sat till morning in my waste state
Searching for ways to repent
Soon she awakened
She discovered my death
She cried!
She cried and cried at my passing
Tears I was undeserving
About this poem
A friend and his spouse had a fight and I found out that a week had passed and they weren't speaking to each other. I personally could not fathom the thought of going to sleep one night let alone a whole week in anger and silence.
