On the Road Again

Richard Groff 1957 (Pottstown, Pa.)

How do I love thee? Not like this world I say,
By telling you lies and leading you astray.
But I tell you the truth and don’t give you false hope,
You’ll be pummeled and pounded as you lean on the rope.
The rope of salvation has become now your anchor.

Will the fool be saved also as he leans on his banker?
The plight of the rich is precarious at least;
If they don’t die to themselves they won’t come to the feast.
The feast that our LORD has prepared for the humble!
I pray that no one over riches will stumble.
