The Beginning of a New Era: A Sonnet of Ramanath Biswas

In the early dawn of the 20th century's morn,
The world was plagued by conflict, war and strife,
With ominous clouds of mistrust and scorns,
That loomed so large, bringing endless life.

India, a British colony, was thrust,
To join the Allied Powers in their fight,
As brave and idealistic youths enlisted,
To form a Bengali platoon in sight.

One scrawny chap, Ramanath Biswas, bold,
Hailed from Sylhet, in the then Bangladesh,
With immense faith in his inner strength, untold,
Was willing to prove it, despite being unplanned.

With a gypsy soul, yearning for adventure,
He joined the Bengali Paltan, full of fervor.

Biswas embarked on a world tour, on a bicycle,
His constant companion, as he explored uncharted territories,
Cycling through South and East Asia, with a bicycle,
With two wrappers, a pair of slippers, and a box of tools.

In 1934, he travelled through many lands,
Witnessing racial segregation in apartheid's hands.
He was humbled by the vast bounty of nature,
And donated his pound bills to two poor creatures.

After Partition, Biswas chose to stay,
And founded a publication house, with books to display.
He wrote travelogues in Anandabazar Patrika,
Informative and interesting, with a touch of magic.

Biswas' legacy lives on, in his travelogues,
Inspiring generations, with his heart-warming coos,
A true testament to the power of adventure,
And the strength of the human spirit, without a measure.

So here's to Ramanath Biswas, a true adventurer,
Who explored the world, and left us with much to remember.

And though he faced many a challenge and strife,
Biswas' spirit was strong, unyielding and bright.
With a heart filled with passion, courage and life,
He sought adventure, and found his true might.

In war, he fought bravely, but fell ill,
And though he was sent home, he did not stop.
For he dreamed of the world, and all its thrill,
And set out on a journey, 'twas on top.

On a bicycle, he traveled far and wide,
Through South and East Asia, and then Africa too.
He marveled at the beauty that lay beside,
And was humbled by nature's vast bounty too.

He wrote about his journeys, and his tales,
Inspiring others to travel and to sail.
His books are filled with wonder and detail,
A legacy that will forever trail.

He chose to stay back in East Pakistan,
But found no publisher, and thus began
His own publishing house, to aid a plan,
To share his stories, with all the land.

In Kolkata, he wrote and lived his days,
Inspiring people with his travel ways.
Until he breathed his last, in 1955,
Leaving a legacy that will not decay.

So let us remember Ramnath Biswas' name,
A man with a gypsy soul, filled with flame.
Who dared to dream, and traveled far and wide,
Leaving behind a trail of stories that will abide.

But Biswas' spirit of adventure and wanderlust lives on,
In the pages of his travelogues and stories spun.
A testament to his bravery and his inner might,
His journey on a bicycle through the world was a sight.

In an era where war and conflict raged all around,
Biswas sought out the beauty that the world had found.
His experiences shaped his views on what was right,
And the lessons he learned he wanted to shed light.

For he saw the ugliness of racial segregation,
And was inspired by the vast bounty of nature's creation.
With his writing, he aimed to bridge the divide,
And share with others what he saw on his worldwide ride.

His legacy, a reminder of the good that man can do,
A symbol of hope and bravery, a guiding light anew.
For Ramnath Biswas, though he may have left this earth,
His spirit lives on, as his travels and tales give birth.

In addition , the 20th century saw much strife,
But in Ramnath Biswas, there was a glimmer of life.
His courage, spirit and passion, an inspiration to all,
His story, a reminder of the beauty that exists beyond the wall.

And thus, the legacy of Ramnath Biswas lives on,
A testament to courage and bravery hewn,
With his travels and tales, he left a mark,
That inspired many to embark.

In a time of war and conflict, he found a way,
To rise above and seek adventure every day,
With a bicycle as his trusty steed,
He ventured forth, with no fear or need.

From the scorching sands of Mesopotamia,
To the wild forests of South Africa,
He explored the world, with wonder in his eyes,
And captured its beauty, with pen and prize.

But Ramnath was more than just a traveler,
He was a man of conscience, a true believer,
In the face of segregation and racial divide,
He stood up for the oppressed, with honor and pride.

And so, as we reflect on his life so well-lived,
We are reminded of the lessons he has given,
To follow our dreams, to seek adventure and truth,
And to stand for justice, in our youth.

For Ramnath Biswas, was more than just a name,
He was a symbol of hope, of courage and fame,
And his story will endure, for generations to come,
As a reminder of what it means, to be a true human.
