Help

Gina Kristoff 1995 (Fort St. John)

Imprisoned in my own mind
My thoughts, like bars on a cell
I try to move- I’m stuck
My thoughts are slowly drowning me
The more I fight, the more I’m swallowed-
My mind is darkness
The blackest black
In the darkest dark
I am afraid, but I am not alone
My demons hold me still
Their words cut into me like knives
They call out my flaws, my insecurities, my weaknesses
I try to fight but they fight back harder
They are insurmountable
I try, I try so hard but it is overwhelming
I feel weak
I can’t see
I can’t breathe
I can’t move
Help
But nobody’s coming
because it’s all in my mind
And if I say anything, they will think I’m crazy
They will say nobody is there, they will say it’s all in my head
But I see them- I know them. Sometimes I feel comfort in their darkest
I have known them my whole life
To a point where I don’t know how I’d live without them
So I just here, exhausted, defeated, terrified
As the demons choke me harder
And I smile and say “I’m fine”
