Narcotics Anonymous

Doug Blair 1951 (London)

It seemed like an option.
Gumption.
Correction.
Connection.
To get off the stuff.
Tried hard enough
Cold turkey was rough
And short-lived
Dammittall.
In this Hall
Folks get up and
Spill their beans.
What it means
To them to be wasted
Shit face-ed.
And scratching for more.
Any chore for some cash
Any trick for a stash.
And I just want to
Drop that Monkey.
Please help me.
I said.
And a nice Guy
Named Fred.
Drew my name.
Said he’d never cast blame.
And the paths that he saw.
Should have been dead.
But not Fred.
So the plan
Was for Fridays
Five thirty
A ribs place
And some talking just
To give my head space.
He was OK, in his way.
Nothing here of disgrace.
Just a Friend.
