sang for home

Here, I find myself floundering out to rough green seas, lost in the wild abyss, darkness, and brine.
Smoke and mirrors under the wicked waves, frightening; I close my eyes tightly.
I dip my face down fast, face taunt with concentration, clasping for anything beneath me
Shallowly scuffing up the sea floor with pale hands and feet
Seaweed pulls out my oxygen, muffles my songs, and mops my hair harshly.
Murky depths pull me deeply back and forth; I look for my anchor that fell away; perhaps I’ll procure another one.
I found peace holding the small shell that I happened to grasp from the seafloor.
I brought the small shell to the surface, to share with my loved ones
The pieces of me had broken again; I picked them up all together and sang for home again.
