Sour Grapes

Richard Groff 1957 (Pottstown, Pa.)

Delicious sounds suspicious in the eyes of those who see.
How can she be delicious when I know she’s just like me?

But those who eat are blinded by her beauty and her charm.
And much to their dismay, in every way, they will be harmed!

What do you hold precious in your heart that can’t be sold?
And how much do you do for love without the thought of gold?

Do you desire wisdom or a platform to stand on?
While wisdom will support you, the platform soon is gone!

So, while the fruit looks ripe and it’s appealing to the eye,
There is a simple little truth that no one can deny.

When its been taken from the vine and left alone too long,
It will not satisfy you; all its sweetness will be gone!
