Thanksgiving

Richard Groff 1957 (Pottstown, Pa.)

Thanksgiving is not a place or time
A meal or a group of people
To experience the joy that thanksgiving brings
You don’t need a church with a steeple

You don’t need a turkey with all the trimmings
Or a morning football game
You don’t need a big house or a fancy car
Gold jewelry or a pretty dame

To experience the joy that thanksgiving brings
You really only need three things
A grateful heart that’s been given wings
A friend to tell and a song to sing

If you have these things then celebrate
Don’t waste your time lost in debate
God doesn’t care if you win or lose
He only asks for you to choose
