A Fertile Land

Richard Groff 1957 (Pottstown, Pa.)

Go ahead because you can;
There is no need to fear those men.

The ones that seek your life are gone;
The path is free so carry on.

With fire from your mouth they died.
They threatened you but they got fried.

Now speak the words I give to you;
No rain will fall until you’re through.

Though your flesh dies and rots away,
In your new house you will now stay.

Your body kept secure from harm.
A fertile land that I may farm!
