Just a Fling

Retirement was a fling,                                                                                                                                              a passing thought, a dawn                                                                                                                                              of weakened bones and flesh awake,
alone in a bed of pain,                                                                                                                                               devoid of love and grace.                                                                                                                                              The sun didn't shine that day
and a cloud overhead, a veil
upon my soul resigned to sail.                                                                                                                                             So many dreams to live, and so many hopes to be.
But it was all a fling of mind polluted with despair.                                                                                                                                              It was the end of winter,                                                                                                                                               spring was yet to come.                                                                                                                                              And love arrived in lusty eyes
upon my eyes, a kiss upon my lips,                                                                                                                                              your hand stretched, you're telling me of love,                                                                                                                                               ignited life again and summer was the king of the day.
