Joyful Christmas

Smita Dey 1982 (North Carolina)

It’s winter break from middle school
Jane told her friend Kate “ Let go do something cool.”
Kate said I have to go to the hospital and volunteer.
Jane said, “ That’s boring I am not going there.”
Kate said. "I can go when my work is done."
  Jane said “You’re no fun”

Kate said, "Come to the hospital and you will see.
Not everyone feels well like you and me."

The next day Jane came to the hospital to tell Kate I am sorry
 Kate said don’t worry
Jane said, “I was a fool.”
Kate said, “I still think you are cool.”

Jane saw a boy sitting in a wheelchair.
Jane thought to herself, he can’t celebrate Christmas at home that’s not fair.

She had an idea that will be fun.
Kate said “Let’s find a place in the hospital today
where kids can celebrate Christmas and play.”

"I’ll ask my friend Paul to be Santa Clause"
Jane called him without a pause
She said “We’ll hang lights on the wall
The kids will love it because it won’t look small
On Christmas, Santa came and brought everyone a toy.
Jane  saw it as a success and felt great joy
