ROADSIDE

Phil Roberts 1957 (Melbourne)

Death lurks by the roadside
As guileless travellers pass,
Unaware that this may
Very well be their last.

Noxious weeds grow high
Hiding evil lurking there,
Dark clouds hide the horrors
Floating through the air.

Roadside diners beckoning
But only death is within,
Evil lurks in the shadows on
A highway wreathed in sin.

Kerbside menaces lingering
Monstrosities are creeping,
Hoping to feast upon you
As innocently you're sleeping.

Driving along the macadam
Unaware of silent death,
Reaching out after you
To steal your final breath.

Piscine horrors swimming
In streams beside the road,
Hoping for late swimmers
To visit their deadly abode.

Death lurks by the roadside
Creeping, slithering things,
Great saurians rip and rend
While buzzing horrors sting.
