SOMEWHERE IN THE DARK

Phil Roberts 1957 (Melbourne)

Somewhere in the dark
As the broken-hearted cry;
Something wicked surely comes
Sheer evil personified.

Sometime after nightfall
As innocent walkers do abound;
Something dreadful leaves its crypt
To stalk throughout this town.

Something wreaking of mortuaries
That should be itself long dead;
Is hunting the unwary folk
Who could be safe in bed.

The night-time is the wrong time
To be abroad these days;
As terror creeps the lonely streets
Dragging passers to their graves.

Something lost in legend
Has found its way to life;
And only those who hide and pray
Can possibly survive.

A lurking horror out of myth
Has slinked into our reality;
Dragging night folk to their doom
With such gruesome finality.

Something horrid has arrived
Upon this poor world of ours;
Now the survival of the human race
Can be measured in mere hours.
